How Medicare Supplement Plans Work
Medicare Supplements are great for covering medical expenses (gaps) that Original Medicare Part A and B do not cover.
Medicare Part A – Hospital insurance
Medicare Part A covers hospital insurance, however, there are deductibles and co-pays with Part D. Many Cigna Medicare supplement plans cover the Medicare Part A deductible, as well as coinsurance for hospital, stays over 60 days.
Medicare Part B – Doctor’s Service
Medicare Part B covers all outpatient services that you will need. Like Medicare Part A, Part B also has a deductible to meet as well as 20% coinsurance that you must pay for all your doctor’s bills.
Medicare Part B covers 80% after you meet the annual deductible.
Medicare Supplement Plans – Who can enroll
To enroll in a Cigna Medicare supplement, you must be enrolled in both Medicare Part A and B.
Medicare Supplements are sold by private insurers, and these insurance companies can decide what rates to charge for these plans. You can find their rates here on our site when you search for quotes.
We will show you how insurers like Cigna compare to the competition.
Which Cigna Medicare Supplement is best for you?
Cigna sells all the following Medicare Supplement plans- A, B, C, D, F, High Deductible-F, G, and N.
While there are 12 Medigap plans offered, there really are just a few plans that most people enroll in.
Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan G
Medicare Plan G is Cigna’s most popular Medicare supplement plan due to its great coverage and low premiums. In fact, Plan G is now the most comprehensive plan offered to people new to Medicare.
With Medicare Plan G you simply pay the annual Part B deductible and then get 100% coverage on all Medicare-approved bills. There is no network and you don’t need referrals to see a specialist.
Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan N
Medicare Plan N is the second most popular plan and has lower premiums than Medicare Plan G. The coverage is similar, but in exchange for lower premiums, you might have some additional out-of-pocket expenses with Plan N.
Some additional costs on Plan N might include:
- A $20 co-pay for doctor’s visits (Telehealth visits do not apply)
- A $50 co-pay for ER visits if not admitted (Urgent care visits have no co-pay)
- Part B excess charges are not covered, though extremely rare
