Who Is Eligible For A Medigap Policy

Anyone who is eligible for Medicare or already has an Original Medicare policy can sign up for Medigap. These policies are issued by private insurers but still function within state regulations. The complication lies on whether or not to even sign up for these policies in the first place.

These supplemental plans function independently from TRICARE, Medicare Advantage, Veterans Administration (VA), or employer/union covers.

When Should You buy A Medigap Plan?

When it comes to Original Medicare, you may be aware that eligibility begins at 65 and you must enroll in the program within a six-month window. There are a few exceptions of cause where beneficiaries are signed up before reaching 65. It is just because you want to avoid being bombarded by emails and even calls from Medicare agents. Also, if you only asked for a quote from one site, you may still end up getting calls from several different agents.

Unfortunately, most of the Medicare quote sites that you will come across at first are out to collect your information and sell it as Medicare leads to different agents.

The bottom line is that whether you go with a Mutual of Omaha Medigap plan or the same policy from another company they will offer the same exact benefits. While there may be price differences, they are usually very negligible, and the claim payout timelines are also even.
