Medigap Plans

I’ll cover the differences in the plan letters and their benefits, as well as the cost of Medigap plans. Let me just start with the basics of Medicare and why you would even want a Medigap Plan.

Medicare Supplement PlansWell, you’re going to have Medicare Part A and Part B. That is called Original Medicare.

It’s sort of the hub as I like to call it, of all the rest of your coverage.

Most people add a Part D drug plan to that as well as a Medigap Plan. Medicare Part A covers hospitalization, and Part B covers your doctor’s services.

You can see why that’s the core of your medical benefits.

Now Part A and Part B don’t cover everything, there is what is called “gaps” in them, or expenses left out that you must pay out-of-pocket.

These are things like:Medicare Supplement Plans

  • Deductibles
  • Coinsurance
  • Co-payments

And that’s where a Medigap Plan comes in. Hence the term Medigap, it helps cover the gaps of Part A and Part B.

There are 10 different Medigap plans available. I’m going to show you the chart here in a moment and why we don’t really even need to look at most of them.

There are just a few popular plans that most people go with that provide great coverage for relatively low premiums.

Before I compare the Medigap plans, I will tell you a little more about Medisupps.com.

So let’s go ahead and dive right into that Medigap plans chart where I will teach you how to read it and show you what the benefits are of those most popular plans that I mentioned.

Medicare Supplement Plans Comparison Chart 2021

Below is the Medicare Supplement Plans chart  for 2021. These are all of the plans that will be available, as well as their coverage.

On the left-hand side of this chart, it displays the different benefits that are available. And at the top of the course, it shows you the plan letters which are A – N. Each letter has different coverage.

You might be looking at this and saying, “Seems like a couple of letters are missing.” And you’re right!  That is because, in 2010, they removed a few letters and added a few different ones.

So you’ll see Plan J and Plan E are not even on there. They removed those and added M and N, and there’s also no Plan I anymore. But most of these, as I mentioned before, we’re not even going to look at.

The reason is, they have less coverage and probably cost the same or more Plans like Plan N or Plan G. They simply aren’t very popular, and that matters.

That’s because an unpopular plan always equals a very expensive plan, and it usually has less coverage.

The Best Medicare Supplement Plans

I’ll start with what was the most popular plan for many years and some of you reading this may actually still have it. I’m talking about Medicare Plan F.

Medicare Supplement Plan fMedicare Plan F covers 100% of the gaps in Part A and Part B Medicare. You literally show your cards at the doctor’s office and get no medical bills, even with specialists and hospitals.

Now I realize this sounds tremendous. And believe me, for years it was great, but that plan is priced out of the market.

You are probably paying at least $300-500 extra dollars in yearly premiums above what Plan G costs, just to get a $198 deductible paid for with your money.

 Medicare Plan G

If you look at the Medigap Plans chart above you can see Plan F pays the $198 Part B deductible for you, and next to it Plan G does not.

That is literally the only difference between the coverage of those two plans.

But I guarantee you, if I checked the quotes on Plan F versus Plan G, you’re paying far more than $198 in premiums each year to have Plan F.

That means you are giving the insurance carrier extra money to pay the Medicare Supplement Plansdeductible…with your money!

You can pay the bill online or write a check yourself in about 5 minutes, and save hundreds of dollars per year by enrolling in Plan G!

So you’re giving them all that extra money just to write a check with your money and pay the Part B deductible.

By the way, the deductible cost of $198 is for the year 2020, and in 2021 it will go up slightly as it does every year. But the rules remain the same.

Of course, if you’re turning 65 or just coming on to Medicare now, you can’t even get a Plan F, but this is for you folks who kept your Plan F and think it’s a good idea to keep it.

It’s not.

Medicare Supplement Plans

Now it might be that you don’t care what it costs and you just never want to see a medical bill, regardless of price.

That luxury is worth it to you to pay more for Plan F. If that’s the case I completely understand.

Just keep in mind, you’re going to get a higher rate increase because the plan is closed.

It’s what is called a closed risk pool. But again, if you’ve got the money and you don’t care, then by all means keep it.

However, for most of the people, we talk with every dollar counts.

If that’s you and you kept your Plan F then you should absolutely give us a call today at 1-888-891-0229.

We will at least just tell you how much Plan G costs and how much you can save, and then we’ll go into which companies we can possibly switch you to.

Medicare Supplement Plan N

Medicare Plan NAnother very popular Medigap plan is Medicare Plan N.

This plan has lower premiums than both Plan F and G, but still offers fantastic coverage.

Let’s talk about Plan N versus Plan G because they’re very close.

On Plan N you still pay the Part B deductible yourself as you do on Plan G.

Remember, this deductible is $198 for 2020.

For fewer premiums on Plan N, you do get slightly less coverage.

But this plan is great for healthy people who don’t want higher premiums and don’t visit the doctor often but know they still need great coverage just in case.

Plan N Co-pays

On Plan N after you pay the Part B deductible you might have a co-pay for each doctor’s visit.

However, it will never be more than $20 and could actually be less than $20, or even nothing. It really just depends on how they code your visit, but the max is $20.

Medicare Supplement Plans

Also with Medicare Plan N, if you visit the emergency room and you’re not admitted, its $50 copay.

Now you might be saying, “Well, gee, Plan G sounds like a winner. I don’t have to deal with all these co-pays.”

And that’s true you don’t on Plan G. Despite higher premiums you have no other out of pocket expenses except the Part B deductible.

But Plan N does have its uses. For example, I have several clients who never go to the doctor.

They tell me…

Medicare Supplement Plans Comparison 2021“Russell, I just want to save money on my monthly premium and if something big happens, I want great coverage. But I don’t want to pay the higher premiums all year long, and I can handle the co-pay here and there.”

And I have them all on Plan N.

But if you don’t want to have to deal with any kind of co-pays, deductibles, or miscellaneous expenses then Plan G is the way to go.
