Medicare Plan G

Medicare Part A and Part B are called Original Medicare. Medicare Supplement Plans Those are your core benefits.

Part A covers hospitalization and Part B covers doctor services.

Medicare supplement plans (Medigap) work right alongside original Medicare to help pay the gaps that Medicare does not.

Gaps are simply expenses that you are responsible for paying.

So having Medicare and a Medicare supplement plan is a great option for most people because you get nearly all of your bills paid, depending on which plan you enroll in.

Medicare supplement plans are lettered, just as the “parts” of Medicare are. So Medicare Part G is actually Medicare Plan G.

Medicare Supplement Plan G – Why it’s Great

The most important thing to remember when it comes to Medicare Supplement plans (Medigap) is that they all have the same coverage within each plan letter.Best Medicare Supplement Plans for 2021

So whether it’s a Plan G and Plan N, it doesn’t matter as each company offers the exact same coverage within each plan letter.

So Medicare Plan G is the same no matter which company offers it. But, they all charge different rates for it!

Medicare Plan G

medicare part gFor many years now we’ve been helping people save money because each of these carriers has different premiums for the exact same thing.

One plan could be $102 from one carrier, and it could be $180 or more from another carrier.

For years Medicare supplement plan G was actually the second most comprehensive plan.  Many people enrolled in Medicare plan F because they got 100% of their bills paid.

However, Medicare removed this plan for anyone new to Medicare on January 1st of 2020 and beyond.  Anyone coming on a Medicare on that date can no longer get a plan F, however, that’s not a bad thing don’t worry!

Plan F is too expensive and had almost no extra value over Plan G.

Medicare plan G coverage

Explaining the benefits of plan G is easy.

You get 100% coverage of the gaps of Medicare parts A and B after you just simply pay one small deductible each year.

The great thing is, this deductible is only once per year and is relatively inexpensive.  For example, in 2021, this deductible is only $203. In 2022 it will go up slightly as it does every year.

After you pay the deductible on plan G you get 100% coverage for the rest of the year on all Medicare-approved expenses.

Is Medicare Plan G better than Plan F?

There are many people still out there who kept their Medicare plan F policy.

Remember only people new to Medicare cannot enroll in the plan, however, if someone had a Medicare plan F prior to January 1st of 2020 they were allowed to keep it if they wanted to.

Is this a good thing?

Well, there are people out there who don’t mind overpaying to never see a medical bill, and if that’s you I can understand why you wanted to keep their plan F.

Medicare Supplement Plans

However, with most people, we talk to every dollar counts. And when I get asked  “Is Medicare Plan G better than plan F?”,  in every instance I say absolutely!

This is for a number of reasons…

Why Medicare Plan G is  better than Plan F:

  • Lower premiums
  • Lower rate increases
  • Simply pay one small deductible and get massive savings over plan F

You see with plan F, the plan pays the annual part B deductible for you each year.

Remember I mentioned this amount was $203 in 2021?  Well imagine paying $300 or more per year to have your plan F, and all it does is give you a $203 benefit.

$300 – $203= $97 Service Fee for them to write a check with your money!

If I suggest that you enroll in Plan F and using the above example, calling it a $97 service fee to write a check with your money, you’d tell me I was crazy!

Medicare Supplement PlansAnd I’m being the generous year with a $300 example. In most areas, this can be $400-$600 extra per year.

So any extra money that you pay for Plan F above the Part B deductible amount for that year, is basically you giving the insurance company all that extra money simply to write a check, with your money.

On plan G you simply pay the first $203 of your medical bills, or whenever the deductible is that year, and you get that 100% coverage.  All the while being able to enjoy lower premiums and saving money.

Medicare Plan G Cost

The cost of Medicare Plan G is roughly $85 – $140 per month. This depends on a number of factors, such as your age, gender, zip code, tobacco use, and if you qualify for any household discounts or not.

Which state you live in has the biggest impact on the cost. For example, rates in California or Florida are much higher than Plan G rates in Tennesee.
