These numbers are usually not released until the November prior to the next year, so keep checking back and we will post them for 2018 as soon as they are available.
Just looking at what coverage each plans offers now is a great way for Medicare subscribers to plan for the future. Each plan has different amounts of coverage it offers, and it is important for Medicare subscribers to understand how these plans differ from one another.
The Most Popular Supplement Plans
Let’s look at a few of the most popular plans to get a better understanding of what they provide. For example, Plan F offers complete coverage. That doesn’t mean it will cover every medical expense, but it does cover every expense considered to be a supplemental one. That includes such necessities as increased hospice care coverage, coverage for all co-payments and deductibles and much, much more.
Plan G has all the same coverage as its total-coverage counterpart Plan F, but it won’t cover a Medicare Part B deductible. Plan N cuts back on the coverage a bit more, asking for its subscribers to pay for excess charges on Part B and some co-payments and deductibles as well.

Answers to Client’s Frequently Asked Questions about Medicare Supplement Insurance
All these plans sit at the high end of the coverage table, which makes them ideal for people who have serious medical needs. Not everyone will find one of these is the best fit for them when they look into Medicare Supplement Plans for 2018. They may need a lower coverage supplement plan or they may need no additional plan at all beyond basic Medicare.
Medicare Supplement Plan F 2018
If you have heard about any of the Medicare supplement plans specifically, odds are that you have heard about Plan F. Now Medicare Supplement Plan F for 2018 is still the same full coverage plan you always hear about, even though coverage changes may be coming to some of the plans.
Medicare isn’t likely to shake up one of its most popular plans, and not many people want to see Plan F drop the classification of “full coverage plan”. So it will still cover all supplementary expenses come 2018. In fact Medicare Supplement Plan F won’t change at all until the year 2020. Then it will not be offered to any new people who are turning age 65.
Now what do those expenses include? Let’s look at the list.
First off, Plan F takes care of your biggest medical expense (or at least the supplementary side of it) and that is hospice care. This is also known as Part A coinsurance, and it includes a lot of the costs of just staying at the hospital in a hospital room. Now Plan F isn’t going to cover that entire expense. Medicare pays for part of it and part of it you have to pay on your own, but when you add Plan F’s coverage to Medicare basic, you get a lot of coverage for a major expense.
Of course, that’s not the only thing this plan will cover. It also takes care of your nursing care services expense. On top of that it covers all your copayments. That includes Medicare Part A and Part B co-payments. Furthermore, this plan will cover you for extra blood every year- as much as three more pints.
Medicare Supplement Plan F for 2018 also takes care of the majority of your deductibles. That’s Medicare Part A and Part B deductibles. These come out of your pocket every time you visit the hospital or some other healthcare provider, but Plan F will take care of all of them. It further provides coverage for your Medicare Part B expenses as well as for emergency medical care that you receive when you are outside the US.
Now there may be times where this coverage isn’t applicable to you, such as when you go to a hospital outside the network area of the insurance provider you are signed with. If you go willingly, then you probably won’t receive any of this comprehensive coverage. That depends on the type of plan you have, of course. Some plans allow you to still receive partial coverage outside their network of healthcare providers.
Also, if you have an emergency and you have to be taken to a non-network hospital, then your provider may be required to offer you full coverage for your care there. Still, if you want to enjoy all the coverage Plan F has to offer, you should try to buy it from an insurance company that has healthcare facilities on its network near you.
With Medicare Supplement Plan F for 2018, you will receive the maximum amount of supplemental coverage. If you have a lot of medical needs, then this may be the plan for you. Of course, you should consider your other choices and decide for yourself which plan is going to fulfill your needs best.
Medicare Supplement Plan G 2018
Have you looked at all of the Medicare supplement plans? If you are thinking about buying one of them or changing your current plan, then you should consider each one of them. One that can become overlooked at times is Plan G. This is a high-coverage plan that offers its subscribers a ton of value. You can look at the coverage on Medicare Supplement Plan G for 2018 to see for yourself.
First off, this plan is cheaper than the full coverage Plan F. It only cuts back a little coverage from what that plan offers, making it a clear choice for the plan with more value.
Secondly, this plan, even with that lack of coverage, is still a plan with a ton to offer. Here is a list of what it will cover for you:
- The entire supplemental hospice care (as much as 365 days of coverage over your plan’s lifetime)
- All nursing care
- The Medicare Part A deductible
- The Medicare Part A co-payment
- The Medicare Part B co-payment
- 80% of emergency medical care in healthcare facilities outside the US (once you have paid the deductible)
- Excess charges related to Medicare Part B expenses
- A few more pints of blood renewed annually
That’s nearly full coverage from this plan, and it is worth every penny when you buy it at the average market value. Now that is not to say that every Medicare subscriber needs to have this plan. That wouldn’t make sense at all. Medicare Supplement Plan G for 2018 is designed for people who have a lot of medical expenses. If you don’t go to the hospital a few times a year and you don’t need serious care for your medical problems, then this plan probably isn’t for you.
But when you really need that much coverage- all the coverage that Plan G offers- then you can get some great value from this plan. You will have to examine the plans and their available coverage to find that out for yourself, and you really should take the time to look at these plans. No one else is going to do the work for you. It may seem like there is a lot of information to sort through, but it will be worth it when you see how much money you save by choosing the right plan for you.
Plan G may not be your plan, but you need to consider it. It can become overlooked as people are picking out their supplemental plan. But it definitely should not be overlooked. It has a lot to offer, and it would be foolish to pass it over just because it doesn’t offer quite as much as Plan F.
If you choose Medicare Supplement Plan G for 2018, you can enjoy a plan with nearly full coverage to offer. And if you compare rates between providers, you don’t have to pay a lot for it. Make sure it is on your radar as you pick out your plan for the coming years. Many Medicare subscribers are making the choice of Plan G as they realize what it can do for them.
Medicare Supplement Plan N 2018
Some Medicare subscribers are not looking at all their options when they go to choose supplemental coverage plans. This can mean they are missing insurance plans that are a good fit for them and instead purchasing plans that offer too little coverage or are too expensive. If you need coverage for the coming years, you may want to consider choosing Medicare Supplement Plan N 2018.
This plan often gets the short shrift when compared to fuller coverage plans. It may still be considered a high-coverage plan, but it doesn’t get the same recognition as Plan F. And that is really a shame since it may be better suited to a lot of Medicare subscribers who have already signed up for Plan F.
You see, Plan N is a very cost-effective plan. The rate on this plan is often conservative, especially when compared to Plan F. And yet their coverage is somewhat similar. Plan N may lack in a few areas, presenting more gaps that some of the other plans do, but it does come with quite a bit of coverage. Let’s take a look at that coverage now.
With Plan N, Medicare subscribers always get coverage for hospice care. This adds 365 days’ worth of supplemental Part A coinsurance coverage onto the hospice coverage that Medicare basic already provides. Nursing care is also covered by this plan.
In addition, Medicare Supplement Plan N 2018 provides all coverage for the Medicare Part A copayment and deductible. The Part B copayment is mostly covered, as you will have to pay small copayment fees in some instances, such as when you visit the emergency room.
Also covered with this supplemental plan is the care you receive for emergency medical services outside the US. Now this will only apply in specific circumstances and it will only cover up to 80% of the cost. You will also have to pay a deductible before any coverage is applied, but the coverage can be substantial for this sometimes costly expense.
