About Cigna

A Fortune 500 health insurance company, Cigna is one of the largest insurers in the United States. Millions of Americans receive their health insurance through Cigna, including Medicare Supplement Insurance.

The insurer has been called Cigna since 1982 when it formed as a result of a merger between two companies, Connecticut General Life Insurance Company (CG), which was founded in 1865, and Insurance Company of North American (INA), which was established in 1792.

The insurer is highly respected and has established itself as one of the leaders in the health insurance industry.

About Cigna Medicare Supplement Insurance

Cigna’s Medicare Supplement plans are available in 48 states, as well as Washington, DC. In addition to the standard Medigap benefits, the company also offers its policyholders additional benefits, such as discounted rates on things like hearing and vision screenings, and health and wellness products, as well as household discounts.

While Cigna’s premiums are a bit higher than the average, the company puts more of the monthly premiums it collects toward member benefits.

There are a total of 10 Medicare Supplement Plans, and Cigna only offers three plans that all beneficiaries are eligible to purchase.

Plan F is also available for individuals who became eligible for Medicare benefits before January 1, 2020. While plans may be limited, one of the key benefits of Cigna Medigap insurance is that you will be able to visit any doctor or health care provider who accepts Medicare.

Medicare Appointment Plan N

Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan N

As stated above, Cigna offers four Medicare Supplement Insurance plans. All Medicare beneficiaries can purchase three of the policies the insurer offers, including Plan A, Plan G, and Plan N, and one of the policies – Plan G – are only eligible for beneficiaries who became eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020.

Of the Medigap policies Cigna offers, Plan N is one of the more popular options.

Medicare Supplement Plan N is specifically designed for beneficiaries who are seeking a policy that helps to offset the out-of-pocket expenses that are associated with Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) but want lower monthly premiums.

The premiums for Plan N are lower than other Medicare Supplement policies that Cigna offers, such as Medicare Plan G and Plan F; however, to keep those premiums low, policyholders have to cover the cost of the Part B copays.

Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan N benefits

Copays for office visits can run up to $20 and copays for emergency room visits can cost up to $50 per visit (the fee is waived if you are admitted).

If you have Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan N, once you pay your copays (and as long as you are current with your premiums), the insurance company will kick in and cover the remainder of the Part B copay.

Additionally, Plan N also covers 100 percent of the following out-of-pocked Medicare expenses:

  • Part A deductible
  • Part A coinsurance and hospital care for up to an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits have been used up
  • Part A copayment or coinsurance
  • Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
  • First, three pints of blood required for medical procedures

Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan N will also pay for up to 80 percent of emergency medical care you receive while you’re traveling outside of the United States (up to a $50,000 limit). Furthermore, once you’ve paid the required Part B copay, the insurer will pay for the remainder of your Part B coinsurance.
