Manhattan Life offers cost-effective insurance plans in many areas for people with a variety of coverage needs. Their company owns four different subsidiaries that serve different sectors of the population. Out of all their offerings, it is Manhattan Life Medigap Insurance in 2016 that most seniors will be interested in.
That’s because this supplemental form of Medicare insurance provides essential coverage to pay medical expenses where Medicare can sometimes fall short. Out of the list of Medigap insurance plans that they offer, plans F, C, G and N are the ones that are typically the most popular.
Financial Rating and Household Discount
At the time of this writing Manhattan Life is rated B+ by A.M. Best, which is defined as a “secure” company. They offer a 7% household discount on their Medigap plans for couples as well as if two people are living together in the same household and over the age of 60.
There is no one best plan for everyone so it’s wise to look at the most popular plans and their benefits, and then make an informed decision. Many agents will just tell people that Plan F is the best because it has the most coverage. While that’s true, healthy people who rarely see their doctor could end up paying far more in premiums for coverage they may not need.

Medigap Plan F
Plan F is the only plan that does pay 100 percent of the gaps in Medicare. Again, this also comes with the highest price tag. If you’re the type of person who never wants to get a medical bill, never pay any deductibles, co-pays, or coinsurance then Plan F is the way to go. But before signing up for Plan F you should seriously consider Plan G and check the rates between the two.
Medigap Plan G
The reason why people should get rates for Plan G along with F is because the plans are nearly identical. The only difference is who pays the annual Part B deductible of $147. Plan F pays this for you, but in reality you’re just paying higher premiums for the plan to pay it for you. So in reality, you’re paying the $147 through these premiums and often even more!
With Plan G once you meet this deductible it pays 100 percent just like Plan F. So in most instances you save money by paying this yourself.
Medigap Plan N
Plan N offers the least amount of coverage out of these three high-coverage plans. On Plan N you must still pay the annual deductible of $147. After this is met you might have up to a $20 co-pay per doctor’s visit. If you visit the ER and you’re not admitted, you will need to pay a $50 co-pay with Plan N. Plan N also does not cover Part B excess charges.
Choosing a Plan
These diverse plans offer coverage in varying amounts, and determining which is right for you will require that you examine their coverage and compare it against your needs. Each plan has its own benefits and can provide ample coverage for different people, so they are all worth considering.
For those looking for additional coverage for their medical expenses, these Medigap plans are the best way to do so. And the coverage they offer is expected to stay the same through the next year.
